Trend: Pastries Industries turn SOUTH KOREANS to be more WESTERNERS???

Long long time ago, South Korean having rice as their main dishes all the time. This including breakfast, lunch as well dinner. However during these past few years we can see the trend changing! In fact NOT only in South Korea but almost across ALL Asia! ㅋㅋㅋ Why I choose South Korea then?? I choose South Korea because this country favor me more. ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Travel have taken me to a few countries, yet I found myself back and forth to Korea for few times! ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Even I've been there three times so far, I felt there are still so much to explore!ㅋㅋHowever, I take a break for one or two years maybe as to give myself a chance to explore other countries too! ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Looking at our topic, maybe my next trip to Korea (somewhere in the future) ll be eye opener to me?? Or I will find new side of Korea as its quite hard to look for RICE while I'm there??ㅋㅋ I hope NOT!ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Everyday I have to eat RICE at least once!! ㅋㅋㅋ Don't take away my rice!~ ㅠㅠ I can't live without RICE!!ㅋㅋㅋ

Apart from that, we know that Korean are obsessed with anything that looks cute!! Just list it down, from fashion, pets, even to meals!ㅋㅋㅋ For me if meals/food are too cute I might NOT eat it! ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Even though you guys knows right that I'm addicted to their coffee??Too bad I'm NOT a fan for their pastries!!ㅋㅋㅋ It's NOT because the taste is NOT up to my expectation but I need to make sure is it HALAL or not. That's one of the reason, why I don't eat it much! Another reason is like other people, seen such cute pastry, cake or dessert I cannot help myself to snap some of  photos! yet I can't eat it!ㅋㅋ

Back to our topic, do you know why these days Korean are more keen to pastries, cake or dessert?? The first reason is due to their hectic schedule! Many Korean wives who works prefer to prepare bread/toast for family breakfast instead of rice.ㅋㅋㅋ This is because to preparing rice, it takes many times and most of them need to rush to the office!! Preparing toast is simple as A, B,C compare preparing rice with side dishes!ㅋㅋ Some even just buy it from shopping mall and add some other stuff like cheese, jammed, peanut butter or chocolate syrup! Depend on their taste buds.ㅋㅋ

Another reason is quite cliche.ㅋㅋㅋ People might wonder why I said like that isn't it?? Well there are many Korean who adores western culture!!ㅋㅋ For them western culture is the best!ㅋㅋㅋ Hearing it makes me think "aha!quite.." ㅋㅋ It's not only culture but almost anything related to The State.ㅋㅋ Movie, drama, ability to fluent in American English and even food!ㅋㅋㅋ For them eating fancy bread or pastries will make people around kept eye on them.ㅋㅋㅋ Hmm I'm NOT sure if I used correct phrase!ㅋㅋㅋ However one of my Korean friend said that.ㅋㅋㅋ Which I found it quite funny! ㅋㅋㅋ

Those two reasons already show some significant downturn to rice producing! I guess some people think that this topic is not much important isn't it?? I mean people might says," who cares?? If I eat pastries or rice"??ㅋㅋ For those whose NOT working in agriculture sector might think that way ㅋㅋㅋ However for farmers who planting paddy, this had affected them! Poor them.. Yes Korea produce both paddy as well wheat. However paddy production is greater than wheat. This make them to import more wheat from outside to cover the demand. If you asking me which one you prefer I still said rice ㅋㅋㅋ because for me eating those pastries cannot fill my tummy for a long time!ㅋㅋㅋ

p/s: Too cute pastries??? Well, yes but its contains so much sugar in it! ㅋㅋㅋ Be careful or you will register yourself as diabetic patient soon ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Life: KOREAN had their FIRST KISS at a very YOUNG age?? O-o

Raising a kid is NOT simple as you THINK! You might think that you can EMBRACE them all the time. However there are TIMES where they will drive you CRAZY with their MISCHIEVOUS behavior. ㅋㅋ You guys might WONDER why am I saying this and if I had RAISE one?ㅋㅋㅋ Well for the time being I DON'T have any nor raising. Yes I do have MANY nephews and nieces but they are NOT the same as raising our OWN!

I love BEEN around them even SOMETIMES they drive me CRAZY!ㅋㅋThey just a KID, always PLAYFUL yet charming on their own WAYS, every ONE of them! I’m sure WE were like that too during our CHILDHOOD isn’t it?ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ O-o Back to our TOPIC, Korean had their FIRST KISS at a very YOUNG age??!! What is the RELATION between this TOPIC and RAISING a child??!ㅋㅋㅋ

Every PEOPLE/SOCIETY has their very OWN ways to RAISE their CHILD. Some are SEEMS very MEANS or strict, some are very PLAIN or people might think did they raise a kid or simply IGNORED them?? ㅋㅋ Since I LOVE to watch one of KOREAN Variety SHOW, SUPERMAN RETURNS, I guess some of you know this PROGRAM isn’t it?? I saw EACH of them have their own WAYS to RAISE their kids but at ONE point all of them have COMMON or similar action raising their kids.

To DISCIPLINE a kid is NOT an EASY job! Yes we must LOVE them but sometimes we also NEED to PUNISH them when they do WRONG DOING! However after PUNISHING them you NEED to make them feel WARM and SAFE around you again!! From the PROGRAM I saw how KOREAN PUNISH their kids but at the SAME time make them to LOVE you MORE! INTERESTING isn't it?? The SIMPLE way is KISSING. Kissing kids is NORMAL. Like me I love to KISS my nieces and nephews too!ㅋㅋㅋ However SMOOCHES a kids on their LIPS is UNCOMMON action at MY COUNTRY!! Over here we HARDLY saw it! I’m NOT even SEEN any of my SIBLINGS doing that to their CHILD!ㅋㅋ

Most Korean KISSES their child all the TIME too, but they KISS on kids LIPS. COMPARE to here at MALAYSIA, most of US kiss kids on their CHEEKS! We know that KIDS sometimes ACT in mischievous ways as to get our ATTENTION isn’t it??Some of their mischievous actions may LEAD to parent BLOW UP!ㅋㅋ When parent blow up normally they will PUNISHING their child. If you see how Korean TRAINING their child, I guess some of you might SPEECHLESS!ㅋㅋㅋHowever, one of their GOOD ways to TEACH their child is NEVER to BEAT them EVEN they did WRONG! Does it MEAN just to LET them go?? Of course NOT!ㅋㅋㅋ   

If we SAW how most Korean PUNISHING their child when they did WRONG, sometimes we felt like did it WORKS?? Will they LISTEN?O-o Sometimes we FELT like it’s too STRICT! ㅋㅋㅋ However we saw from the SHOW its WORKS! Sometimes I WONDER is it really works?? Or for the SAKE of PROGRAM so they simply ask kids to BEHAVE or perhaps SHOWER them with GIFT???ㅋㅋ Well ONE of important FACT is, kids DON'T know how to LIE, so I think they did OBEDIENT! ㅋㅋㅋ

Even if Korean PARENT punish their kids, at the END we saw that kids were ATTACHED to their parent a LOT. ㅋㅋ   Apart from KISSING, most of them offer HUGS a lot too! This TWO ways seems to be very EFFECTIVE to DISCIPLINARY kids. No WONDER most of Korean KIDS seems OBEDIENT too much isn’t it?? ㅋㅋㅋ Maybe SOME of us didn’t BELIEVE it right?? I did some more RESEARCH by READING on PARENTING blog, and books as well WATCH parenting videos. I found out that its TRUE!! Some of GOOD ways to get CLOSE with KIDS and make them obedient is by KISSING and HUGS them a lot per DAY!ㅋㅋㅋ. I guess that's WHY we can see that many Korean kids WELL BEHAVE around their OLDEST!ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

p/s: Even if kids been PUNISHED for WRONG DOING, make sure to HUG and KISS on their lips as to create more BONDING with them! SOMEDAY if I have MY own, I would LOVE to try this too!~ ^^

I think MOST of people around the WORLD knew about BLACK FRIDAY isn't it??? Somehow it makes us who NOT living in THE STATE envy them for this EVENT!ㅠㅠ Starting this YEAR, for those who LIVE at SOUTH KOREA, SHIFT away your ENVIOUS and WORRY!ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ BLACK FRIDAY South Korea VERSION is HERE!! Wee ^^ Technically for this YEAR its NOT their very FIRST event. This BLACK FRIDAY event had BEEN started LAST YEAR but it ONLY host by ONLINE SHOPPING MALL like 11st, Lotte.com,AK Mall, HyundaiHmall,CJ Mall and etc.

After a DAY event, they were SURPRISED to see the OUTCOME! Hence for 2015, all of them DECIDED to HOST South Korea BLACK FRIDAY on the SAME period ACROSS the NATION!! NOT only PARTICIPATING by ONLINE shopping mall, but also PARTICIPATING by LUXURY department stores,LARGE discount chains, CONVENIENCE store and TRADITIONAL market. This EVENT will ON-GOING for 14 DAYS, STARTED on 1st OCTOBER to 14 th OCTOBER! How I WISH I'm there!! T.T  Just like in THE STATE their Black Friday is AFTER Thanksgiving, South Korea Black Friday also been HOSTING right after KOREAN THANKSGIVING (CHUSEOK).

Wonder how BIG the EVENT is??Well from what I READ, they said many involved in! About 27 000 STORES and markets INVOLVED across the COUNTRY! This make it as the most very FIRST and LARGEST nationwide SALES event ever! Woww!!O-o This makes me ENVY my KOREAN FRIENDS!!ㅠㅠ According to their GOVERNMENT, this LARGE scale EVENT been ORGANIZED as to STIMULATE the GROWTH of their DOMESTIC economic. Due to the HARD hit sagging of their EXPORT sector and WEAK consumer SPENDING, as well after the IMPACT of slow economic since MERS.

p/s: Some of my Korean friends said due to NOT FULLY preparation, this EVENT makes people CONFUSING too. Well I'm NOT sure as I'm NOT there now. Perhaps after FIRST day it will getting BETTER?? O-o For those who already visited, let me know how was it.~

Cultural/Traditional Games: Ddakji (딱지)

Is there are any of you ADDICTED to ORIGAMI?? Why I said "Origami" and what does it RELATED to our TOPIC today??ㅋㅋ Well I'm NOT interested to make a GROUP for origami CLASS session here as I'm NOT good at it!ㅋㅋㅋ However the GAME that I wanna talk about here is RELATED to ORIGAMIㅋㅋ DDAKJI (딱지)is one of the MOST POPULAR games among KOREAN since LONG time ago. 

I try to LOOK for the FACT of when did it get STARTED but I FAILED to FIND it.ㅠㅠ I FOUND a FACT about it but it was NOT clearly STATED as well the author DIDN'T shows any EVIDENT to SUPPORT it..Despite of giving WRONG information here I guess the BEST I can do is NOT revealing about the FACT!ㅋㅋㅋ  As I'm LIVING in ASIAN country, I FOUND out that MOST Asian countries SHARED a bit SIMILAR games to ONE another!ㅋㅋㅋWhat a SURPRISED!ㅋㅋ I CAN'T believe it at first, but its TRUE! ㅋㅋ My CLOSE friend who LIVING at KOREA said they play the SAME games, what a SMALL world!ㅋㅋㅋ

For DDAKJI, I think at my country we DIDN'T play this game ㅠㅠ(During my childhood, I never saw anyone play this but I'm NOT sure late 1998 years on wards).ㅋㅋㅋ We have SIMILAR games but we use PEBBLES! However my KOREAN friends says they have that VERSION too!ㅋㅋ The BEST part is ONE of my GERMANY friend also said the SAME things!He DOES played well with my NEPHEWS when he COMING OVER!! ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Ok for ASIAN countries to SHARE it I think its COMMON isn't it?? But EUROPE?? 대박!(Daebak) INTERESTING!ㅋㅋㅋ Back to OUR topic, ddakji. DDAKJI can be PLAYED at ALMOST ANYWHERE whether INDOOR or OUTDOOR! The ONLY things that NEEDED when to play is DDAKJI itself. 

WHAT is DDAKJI?? Ddakji is a THICK FOLD PAPERS where it consist at LEAST 2 FOLD PAPERS. I know you guys seems CONFUSING right?? ㅋㅋ Well its kind of TOUGH to explain it to all of you!ㅋㅋ Ok why NOT see VIDEO below :P This video will SHOW you HOW TO MAKE DDAKJI! There are few WAYS to make ddakji but this is the SIMPLE one.ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

SIMPLE isn't it?? Didn't have COLORFUL PAPERS?? No WORRIES!ㅋㅋ For ddakji its UNNECESSARILY using colors papers!ㅋㅋㅋ You CAN use ANY papers even OLD NEWSPAPERS!ㅋㅋJust make SURE the SIZE and STEP is CORRECTㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ There are some other WAYS to make it, you can CHECK it out at youtube! ㅋㅋㅋ There are few MORE videos there. ㅋㅋㅋ WHATS NEXT?? Throwback# Places: Daegu Downtown

Daegu is another VIBRANT metropolitan city in South Korea, located somewhere SOUTH EASTERN of Seoul. It took around 3 hours and 40 minutes from Seoul to Daegu. As a CAPITAL city for Gyeongsangbuk-do, this city hold over 2.5 million RESIDENTS with FAMOUS slogan "COLORFUL DAEGU".

Colorful Daegu NOT only famous for vivacious city, but it also known as "APPLE CITY". Im NOT talking about Apple firm ㅋㅋㅋ, don't get me wrongㅋㅋ, its completely DIFFERENT story.ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Daegu known as "Apple city" because of its HUMID subtropical climate,makes this city is ONE of the BEST producing high QUALITY apple area.

Apart from that, DAEGU also KNOWN as "TEXTILE city" as this INDUSTRY is used to be ONE of PILLAR sources for the CITY .During my 2013 trip to KOREA, I STOPPED by at Daegu while Im on my WAY back to SEOUL from Busan.

Actually I have NO idea what is so SPECIAL about DAEGU, ㅋㅋㅋ but I have a FRIEND there. ^^ Since I'm on my WAY to Seoul, why NOT I stopped by and meeting my FRIEND!^^I spend FEW hours in Daegu and STROLLING around Daegu. As we DON'T have a plenty of TIME to go around, she just bring me to DAEGU DOWNTOWN.ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Every CITY in Korea have DIFFERENT downtown area or STYLE according to its REGION. I've been to Gwangju Downtown, Busan Downtown and Gimhae Downtown but NOTHING beat Daegu Downtown! ㅋㅋㅋ ONE of street that I've been at Daegu downtown is Yangnyeongsi Market. This area is completely DIFFERENT from any OTHER downtown I've been to! Surrounding by HERBS and ORIENTAL medicine remind me of their history (I've seen some in their drama)!ㅋㅋㅋ

My friend also gave some explanation about those HERBS and the BENEFIT of oriental medicine. After a while we STOPPED by at Daegu Yangnyeongsi Museum of Oriental Medicine. This museum NOT only FAMOUS among KOREANS but its also an INTERNATIONAL HUB of oriental medicine to people in CHINA, RUSSIA and EUROPE for several CENTURIES!Whoaaa!

Reading about  HOW this MUSEUM been SET UP make me REALIZED another FACT of why they choose "COLORFUL DAEGU" as CITY SLOGAN,ㅋㅋㅋ this city NOT only FAMOUS as APPLE CITY, TEXTILE CITY but widely KNOWN since LONG time ago for FANCY stuff which is HERBS! (Some of herbs is FREAKING expensive!)ㅠㅠ

p/s: After I had KOREAN GINSENG drink, my BLOOD PRESSURE went back to NORMAL! ㅋㅋㅋ I'm struggling with LOW blood pressure for quite LONG TIME!ㅠㅠ Well I'm NOT sure if KOREAN GINSENG drink HEAL me or maybe because I ate too much SEAFOOD while I'm in KOREA?? @-@ ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Life: Can Koreans survive WITHOUT smartphone??

These days it is COMMON to see people with their SMARTPHONE, sometimes not ONLY one but TWO smartphone per person!ㅋㅋㅋ Do you guys KNOW when smartphone era BEGINS?? Which COUNTRY start this PHENOMENA??O-o Smartphone STARTS early 1990 in The STATE but at that time they DIDN'T call it as smartphone, they call it as PDA PHONE.

Then when it EXACTLY starts??Anyone knows?? O-o FIRST smartphone that been RECOGNIZE world wide is somewhere around 1999, in JAPAN. These technology had been SPREAD OUT around the world and here WE ARE, LIVING in smartphone ERA!^^ It's START in Japan, so what is the RELATION of smartphone with KOREA?? O-o I think MOST of you heard SAMSUNG right?? Samsung is ONE of the BEST producing smartphone FIRM in the WORLD! Samsung also known as the MOST BIGGEST company in Korea, NO. 1 COMPANY!ㅋㅋㅋ

Back in KOREA, there is SAMSUNG CITY which is SUWON. Anyone knows SUNGKYUNKWAN UNIVERSITY?? Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) have been RELATED to SAMSUNG since 1996, and on 2006 they have established PARTNERS for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education. Their LIBRARY is FAMOUS for ONE of MOST ADVANCE library in Korea! I wish SOMEDAY I will get a CHANCE to visit there! ㅋㅋㅋ Next, anyone been to EVERLAND?? Do you know that EVERLAND theme park is actually POWERED by SAMSUNG too? ㅋㅋㅋ I've been there ONCE, nice theme park but I NEVER get a CHANCE to play as I'm SICK! ㅠㅠ Too bad..

 Back to our TOPIC, what LIFE would be if LIVING in KOREA WITHOUT a SMARTPHONE?Some says they can SURVIVE it but somehow I DOUBT that!ㅋㅋㅋ while I was in KOREA I saw MOST of KOREAN really DEPEND on their SMARTPHONE!ㅋㅋ Be it Samsung, I phone, LG or any other brand, their EYES constantly LOOKING at it!ㅋㅋ Do you think Korean knows DIRECTION fully?ㅋㅋNO, THEY NOT!! ㅋㅋㅋ MOST of THEM will SEEK DIRECTION via their smartphone!ㅋㅋㅋ If they WANNA try something NEW, most of them NORMALLY will look at REVIEW of RESTAURANT or CAFE via their SMARTPHONE first BEFORE trying!ㅋㅋㅋ Apart from that, they normally LOOKING at their smartphone for KNOWING their SUBWAY ROUTES, STATION, TIMING and etc!ㅋㅋ DO YOU THINK THEY REALLY CAN SURVIVE WITHOUT SMARTPHONE?? Let me know your OPINION regarding this ISSUE?^^

p/s: I am LIVING in MALAYSIA, I've EXPERIENCED few DAYS WITHOUT my SMARTPHONE as its NOT working! ㅠㅠ Well I did SUFFER because of it,ㅋㅋ but after FEW DAYS I think I can MANAGE it :P However if I LIVE in KOREA and my SMARTPHONE NOT working, I guess it might DRIVE ME CRAZY!ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

p/s: Don't be so SURPRISED if you see a 할머니 (Halmeoni) or 할아버지(harabeoji) looking at THEIR SMARTPHONE in KOREA! They are OLD but many of THEM are very SMART, HIGH EDUCATED with ADVANCED technologies, perhaps they are BETTER than YOU!!ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Life: Do you think KOREANS are HONEST???

Living in metropolitan city like SEOUL can be a very NICE experience, yet it also can be a very COMPLEX experience too! From ONE area to another area is quite FAR but doesn't mean it is DIFFICULT for you to MINGLE around much. ㅋㅋ MODERN city with almost EVERYTHING there is EASY to be explored by anyone who love NEW challenge!^^ You can read my few ENTRIES about how EASY to go around in Seoul either via subway or bus.

However today I'm NOT going to talk about how EASE for you to go around Seoul. Instead how SAFE you are there as well why WORRYING about LOSING something while you there??? Which can NEVER be an ISSUE for you!ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ When my friends and I was in KOREA on 2012, we once stay at guesthouse somewhere around Incheon. The LAST day we were in Korea, we were so SURPRISED seen how our guesthouse owner sent us to airport WITHOUT lock his house! Not only NOT locking his house he's NOT even CLOSE the MAIN door!!? We were like this O-o!!! Did he FORGOT??O-o Then we ASKED him did he FORGOT to LOCK his PROPERTY?? His ANSWER is simple "Don't WORRY, NO ones will INTRUDE house here." How LUCKY they are!!ㅋㅋㅋ

How I WISH this kind of MENTALITY can be APPLIED at my HOME COUNTRY!ㅋㅋㅋ Where we DON'T have to WORRY leaving our PRECIOUS stuff as NO ONE will take it! I NEVER say it WON'T happen but due to our SOCIETY PERCEPTION, it is most likely will NEVER happen!ㅋㅋㅋ Most of the times we HEARD that if you SLIPPED your wallet or mobile phone on the STREET, it would be IMPOSSIBLE to get it back isn't it?? However in KOREA, its DIFFERENT! The PERCENTAGE of getting BACK your wallet, mobile phone or any PRECIOUS stuff that slipping is VERY HIGH!! You might think am I JOKING or PULLING your leg isn't it??
